DUES INCREASE & TEMPORARY ASSESSMENT
We have received notification from the National Division that effective June 1, 2011 National dues will increase by $1.00.
Please refer to the attached posted letter of explanation from the National regarding this increase.
As per the Bylaws of the General Committee of Adjustment (amended edition, December 18, 2006), Article VIII, “Dues and Assessments”, item C (“Dues shall be modified con-currently with any wage adjustment on the property”) the GCA dues will automatically increase by 3% effective July 1, 2009 in conjunction with our wage increase that month.
Following a discussion under New Business at the Division meetings in May and June, a motion was made and passed unanimously by the members present at the meeting to increase the Division dues by 3% to cover the new wage rates for members and officers who must be made whole for lost time and stipends.
Finally, General Chairman Dixon, with the unanimous approval of the General Committee Executive Committee, imposed a temporary GCA dues assessment in accordance with Section 26 of BLET Bylaws (January 1, 2004 edition) to defray the cost of lost time anticipated to be incurred during pending contract talks.
Our contract expires July of 2010 and per the contract, Section 6 Notices will be served July of this year. The temporary assessment for Engineers with fifteen (15) years of service will be $10.00 per month. The temporary assessment for Engineers with at least ten (10) years of service will be $8.00 per month. Those Engineers with less than ten (10) years of service will pay a temporary assessment of $6.00 per month.
Because dues are collected in the proceeding month for which they are due (collected in June for July), members paying by payroll deduction will see the increased deduction beginning with their June 5, 2009 paycheck.
Those members paying by check, please keep in mind as per National BLET Constitution and Bylaws, “All dues and assessments are payable on or before the first day of the month to which they apply and are delinquent after the 20th day of the same month”.
